Infant Circumcision and Risk for Disease

ASK:

Prof, according to a report from Reuters correspondent in Australia, L Sastra Wijaya on Monday (05/03/2012) then, there is a recent study concluded that uncircumcised infants at risk of urinary tract infection, and swelling of the kidney was 10 times greater compared with those who were circumcised. When the adults as well, the risk of prostate cancer and penile cancer is higher, and the risk of HIV and syphilis 3 to 8 times higher. For women from the male partner is not circumcised, the risk of cervical cancer four times higher. Is it the above is true? if it means I have to be circumcised? Then, if there is a risk if circumcision as an adult like me?

ANSWER:

I have not had time to read the results of the study. But keep in mind that not all research results are considered correct and accepted by the relevant community. This means that research results should be confirmed by other studies before becoming internationally conclusions.

But I want to give an idea, if correct report of such research, of course, begs the question. For example, many cases of prostate cancer are also obtained in countries where circumcision is a must. Similarly, cervical cancer cases were often found in Indonesia.

So, I think the results of this study is to be confirmed by other studies. The problem, perhaps not many countries are implementing circumcision as a baby (not children) as practiced by Jews.

But if you want to be circumcised so go ahead. The risk does not exist.
