Diet drugs At Most Anticipated Liver Organ Damage

Many people who want to lose weight or body shape in an instant. Usually they use drugs that is claimed to achieve the target body shape or weight that consumers want.

Whereas one study found that such dietary supplements most widely known cause liver injury.

Liver injury caused by the consumption of drugs is the main reason some kind of drugs withdrawn from the market.

Diet and herbal supplements that do not require a prescription and can be purchased over the counter or online is usually used more than 40 percent of the people in the United States, but its potential side effects are not widely known.

In a study funded by the U.S. Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network, the researchers followed 109 cases of patients suffering from liver injury due to consumption of dietary supplements. Most of the patients are white males who are overweight.

The study found that the supplements for body building and weight loss are likely to cause liver injury.

"Too little regulation of such products on the market," said lead researcher, Dr. Victor Navarro, professor of medicine, pharmacology and experimental therapeutics at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia as reported from Health.com, Friday (05/25/2012).

The finding that body building supplements and weight loss is a major cause of liver injury suggests that regulatory efforts are needed to manufacture drugs such as these are more stringent and effective, advice Navarro.

But this study does not prove that the dietary supplement direct cause liver damage. The researchers only noted the connection so that they still needed further investigation.
